Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has reported himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), following a High Court warrant authorising his arrest.
The MP arrived at the EOCO premises on Thursday, October 1, 2026, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Kyea, and other Members of Parliament. He remains inside the facility as his legal and parliamentary colleagues wait outside.
Among those spotted at the EOCO premises are First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu and Effia MP Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, who are there as the MP engages with investigators.
The development follows an order issued by the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 30, authorising EOCO to arrest Baffour Awuah after the investigative agency told the court that it had exhausted reasonable means of securing his voluntary attendance.
Baffour Awuah Turns Himself In
The MP’s decision to report himself comes about a week after an earlier attempt by EOCO officials to take him into custody at the Accra High Court on September 23.
That earlier incident generated controversy after footage of the encounter circulated publicly. EOCO said the attempted arrest formed part of an ongoing investigation, while Baffour Awuah disputed the agency’s account and questioned the manner in which officials approached him.
Following the latest court order, Baffour Awuah chose to report himself to EOCO rather than wait for officers to execute the arrest warrant.
His lawyer, Samuel Atta Kyea, said the decision was voluntary and that his client was not being treated as a fugitive.
Investigation Linked to SIC Life
The case relates to an ongoing EOCO investigation involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
EOCO says the investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions and suspected offences including financial loss, dissipation of funds and money laundering. The allegations remain under investigation and have not been established as criminal wrongdoing by a court.
Baffour Awuah has previously disputed EOCO’s account of the matter. He has maintained that an earlier invitation from EOCO was addressed to the senior partner of his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, in connection with the firm’s work for SIC Life.
According to his account, a representative of the firm subsequently engaged with EOCO on several occasions and submitted a written statement.
What Happens Next?
With Baffour Awuah now inside the EOCO premises, attention is focused on his engagement with investigators and the next steps in the investigation.
The High Court order also authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.
The presence of senior members of the Minority Caucus and the MP’s legal team at EOCO has also attracted public attention as the process unfolds.
Further details are expected following Baffour Awuah’s engagement with EOCO.
