Dr. Nana Yaw Adutwum, Head of Research for the United Party, has publicly called on the government to disclose the exact detention facility housing the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu. Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday June 13 2026, the governance expert argued that hiding the physical location of high-profile inmates severely damages public trust in national anti-corruption initiatives.
The demand follows a major cross-border legal milestone that concluded a multi-year flight from justice. Attionu arrived at Kotoka International Airport on Tuesday June 9 2026, aboard United Airlines flight UA 996, which completed a direct transatlantic journey from Washington Dulles International Airport. State security personnel immediately took her into custody upon arrival to undergo standard administrative debriefing and mandatory physical medical examinations.
Logic dictates that public accountability must remain highly visible to be effective. The former microfinance director was previously convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court and sentenced to a ten-year custodial term for causing a massive financial loss of nearly ninety million Ghanaian Cedis to the state.
While the government announced that she had been successfully handed over to joint police and prison authorities, her specific structural destination remains unconfirmed. Dr. Adutwum emphasized that the state must provide absolute clarity regarding her current whereabouts, noting that transparent execution in high-profile corruption cases is the smartest way to prove the rule of law applies equally to all citizens.
Hoping to convince the public that justice has been served while keeping an inmate hidden from the national eye is a logical error that breeds conspiracy theories. While state security services require absolute operational confidentiality during high-risk transport logistics, holding an asset without transparent facility confirmation is a misstep.
True institutional integrity relies on clear communication, not vague press releases. By openly stating the exact correctional center managing her custodial term, the administration can eliminate unnecessary political speculation, validate the hard work of forensic prosecutors, and comfortably demonstrate a data-driven commitment to anti-corruption enforcement.
