The Food and Drugs Authority has taken swift regulatory action by confiscating large quantities of smoked and dried fish in Tema Newtown following public safety concerns raised by citizens.
The immediate intervention by health inspectors follows a viral video released by popular environmental sanitation group Buzstop Boys. The detailed video footage exposed local traders processing and handling commercial fish products under severely unhygienic conditions along the coastline.
Buzstop Boys publicly alerted the Food and Drugs Authority about the disturbing food handling practices, warning that contaminated marine products pose grave health risks to unsuspecting consumers across major markets. Foodborne bacteria from unwashed equipment and unsanitary drying surfaces can cause severe gastrointestinal infections among buyers.
Upon reviewing the public evidence, FDA taskforce officers deployed immediately to Tema Newtown to inspect the processing site. Officers seized all unhygienic fish stock on site to prevent contaminated seafood from reaching local food vendors and family dining tables.
The Food and Drugs Authority praised vigilant community groups like Buzstop Boys for exposing dangerous food handling operations. Regulatory authorities urged all fish processors across Ghana to observe strict hygienic standards or face severe legal sanctions, market bans, and immediate confiscation of their food products.
