Health institutions in our country need smooth leadership so that patients receive proper care without unnecessary delays. Citizens get extremely frustrated when administrative power struggles affect public services in major hospitals. Clear boundaries between different leadership levels remain very important for national progress.
The Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has stepped forward with a strong warning against administrative overreach. Speaking on Sunday August 16 during the Ministry of Health High Level Mid Year Review Retreat in Ho, he addressed board members directly. He stated clearly that overseeing an agency does not mean running its daily operations.
According to the Minister, board members must respect the legal boundaries of their oversight responsibilities instead of causing friction. The day-to-day running of any health institution belongs strictly to management teams rather than visiting boards. Proper separation between governance and management prevents costly institutional conflicts.
Mr Akandoh also placed heavy emphasis on prudent financial management of public resources during these tight economic times. Health agencies must exercise extreme caution when spending state funds on seminars, training programs, and official travel. Limited financial resources must directly benefit ordinary Ghanaians who rely on public healthcare facilities.
The government remains fully committed to providing appropriate Legislative Instruments to guide institutional operations smoothly. Stronger legal frameworks will ensure that every health agency operates within defined administrative limits. Stakeholders must embrace these corporate governance lessons to improve accountability across the entire health sector.
