Political talk in Ghana can sometimes cause unnecessary tension among citizens who just want peace. People get very frustrated when individuals start pushing ideas that can destabilise the whole nation. A prominent voice has now stepped forward to address this brewing controversy head on.
Ing Dr Kenneth Ashigbey who serves as Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Mines recently spoke out. During an interview on Starr FM with Bola Ray he warned against the growing talk about a third term. He noted that history shows how disastrous multiple term agendas have turned out for other countries.
The law remains extremely clear on the matter because the national constitution does not support such an extension. Dr Ashigbey expressed strong confidence that President John Mahama holds no personal interest in stretching his tenure further. Citizens should therefore ignore rumours meant to distract the government from doing its actual work.
Instead of chasing unnecessary political dreams the country needs absolute focus on solving pressing national challenges. Dr Ashigbey described President Mahama as the best person to finally end illegal mining known locally as galamsey. He urged the administration to use remaining time wisely before leadership transitions ahead of the next major elections.
