FIFA President Gianni Infantino wants to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors. He plans to create a new commercial company called FIFA Forward Enterprise.
This new business will control the commercial rights of our beloved international tournaments. FIFA hopes to raise about 4.2 billion dollars by giving away 20 percent of this company to external buyers. But European countries are very angry and they are not taking this decision lightly.
UEFA believes the soul of football is simply not for sale. They feel Gianni Infantino is doing this huge business move without proper transparency. Because of this confusion UEFA nations have scheduled an emergency meeting this week to decide their coordinated response.
The biggest shock is that European countries are actually discussing boycotting the World Cup completely. Imagine a global tournament without powerhouses like Spain or France playing. That action will totally ruin the vibe and the prestige of the entire competition.
