Manchester City have been found guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules following a long-running investigation by an independent commission.

The findings cover a nine-season period between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.

According to the Premier League, the commission found that Manchester City used a number of commercial agreements that did not reflect the true arrangements between the parties.

The commission said these agreements artificially increased the club’s reported revenues and reduced its costs.

Manchester City were also found to have submitted inaccurate financial accounts and concealed the true state of their finances from auditors and football regulators.

The commission further found that the club significantly breached both Premier League and UEFA spending limits during the period under investigation.

Another major part of the case involved the club’s cooperation with the Premier League investigation.

The commission upheld three of the four alleged breaches relating to Manchester City’s duty to cooperate and act in good faith during the investigation.

However, the case is not yet completely finished.

Manchester City have the right to appeal the commission’s findings. The club has until Friday, October 2, to exercise that right.

The Premier League Board has said it wants the entire process, including any appeals and the publication of relevant decisions, to be completed as soon as possible.

The next major issue will be the potential sanctions and what impact the final outcome could have on Manchester City.

Until the appeal process and remaining proceedings are completed, the full consequences of the findings remain unclear.

The case has attracted significant attention because of the length of the investigation and the seriousness of the financial allegations involving one of England’s leading clubs.
