National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator Benjamin Alpha Aidoo has stepped into the ongoing legal row involving Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. Aidoo insists that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) official properly identified herself before their heated confrontation at the Accra High Court premises.
The viral video capturing the incident caused a heavy public stir after the lawmaker claimed he fled the court compound out of safety concerns. He described the attempted arrest as a state-sponsored kidnapping attempt.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day, Aidoo clarified that the short video circulating online shows only a fraction of the full interaction. He revealed that his internal briefings confirm an earlier, calm dialogue took place where the investigator clearly disclosed her operational identity.
According to the NDC communicator, the MP’s initial willingness to follow the woman in his private vehicle proves he knew her authority. He questioned why an experienced lawyer and legislator would agree to drive alongside a stranger if her identity was unknown.
This perspective directly contradicts claims made by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah during his press briefing. The MP insisted he asked the official for a valid arrest warrant or proper identification card, but she failed to produce either document.
He explained that the confusion surrounding her credentials forced him to drive straight to Parliament to seek refuge among his colleagues. The confrontation occurred following a court session for his client, Salomey Baffoe, who faces legal charges linked to the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok handle.
The opposing accounts have sparked fierce legal debate across radio stations and political forums nationwide. Critics debate whether state agencies must strictly present written warrants before taking public figures into custody at court premises.
While political commentators trade accusations, legal experts urge law enforcement bodies and public officers to maintain professionalism.
