Life can throw painful surprises at people when they least expect it. A joyous homecoming turned into total mourning after a Ghanaian evacuee lost his life right after landing in Accra. Many citizens are feeling heartbroken over this sad news.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on Friday August 14 explaining what happened. Fifty Ghanaians arrived safely at the airport aboard an Air Tanzania flight at 5:50 p.m. They were fleeing heavy xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa.
Fellow passengers noticed that the health condition of the victim began to drop fast. His body started failing him about thirty minutes before the plane touched down in Accra. Excitement quickly turned into fear as passengers prayed for a quick miracle.
A medical emergency team stood on standby right at the airport to receive the returning citizens. They rushed immediately to attend to the sick passenger upon arrival. Doctors tried every possible trick to save his precious life.
All medical efforts failed to bring him back from the brink. Doctors at the Emergency Medical Reception pronounced him dead at 6:55 p.m. That single moment broke the hearts of everyone who survived the harsh ordeal abroad.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently making formal arrangements to contact the bereaved family. Meanwhile, authorities deposited his remains at the Police Hospital for a proper autopsy. Ghanaians continue to send condolences to the grieving family during this dark time.
