Aspiring Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has raised strong concerns over Ghana’s rising cost of living. In a recent statement, he stressed that everyday expenses including electricity, water, public transport, school fees, and basic food items remain higher than eighteen months ago.
His bold remarks reflect the real daily struggles of Ghanaian families who want immediate relief from heavy market prices and tough living conditions.
These concerns emerge following the presentation of the 2026 Mid Year Budget Statement in Parliament on Thursday, July 23. Minister of Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson informed lawmakers that economic recovery remains firmly on track, pointing to the policy rate drop to 14 percent in July 2026.
The Finance Minister emphasized that lower interest rates enable private businesses to access cheaper loans, expand operations, and rebuild investor confidence. While macroeconomic targets align with a targeted primary surplus of 1.5 percent of GDP, citizens still feel the pressure of daily market prices.
Miracles Aboagye argued that overall macroeconomic stabilization must translate directly into cheaper goods and affordable utility tariffs for households. High youth unemployment and sticky food prices mean ordinary families continue to stretch every cedi to survive the month.
Economic success feels truly meaningful when parents buy affordable groceries and pay school fees without heavy financial stress. Aligning official economic indicators with real household budget savings remains the ultimate goal for sustainable national development.
