The upcoming celebration of Eid al-Adha across West Africa is facing a timely call for deep spiritual reflection. The President of the Heralds of Islamic Message, Sheikh Ayub Ofosuhene Asare, has urged the Muslim community to embrace the deeper ethical meaning of the festival.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday May 27 2026, the Islamic leader stressed that the holy celebration is rooted fundamentally in personal sacrifice, moral integrity, and absolute devotion rather than the mere routine slaughtering of livestock.
The sacred festival commemorates the unwavering faith of Prophet Abraham, who stood fully prepared to sacrifice his son in direct obedience to a divine command. Asare explained that the absolute willingness of both father and son to submit offers a timeless, universal lesson in personal discipline and selfless obedience.
Logic dictates that a religious holiday loses its transformative power when it transforms into a superficial social display. Asare clarified that modern interpretations of sacrifice must extend directly into everyday civic responsibilities. True sacrifice means giving your maximum effort to raise disciplined children, support vulnerable communities, and uphold ethical conduct in your professional life. The physical act of charity carries little weight without genuine devotion. The religious leader reminded believers that the blood and the meat do not reach God, noting that the Almighty looks strictly at individual sincerity and the internal readiness to obey His laws.
As Ghanaian Muslims prepare for the festive season, the Islamic scholar called for a complete national focus on core moral values. He strongly urged the public to actively avoid systemic corruption, commercial dishonesty, and political violence. Adhering strictly to Islamic principles of fairness and integrity ultimately creates a peaceful, self-disciplined society where everyone can prosper.
Focusing entirely on purchasing the biggest livestock for social media bragging rights is a logical misstep that misses the spiritual mark completely. While sharing a festive meal with friends is an excellent way to build community bonds, the real victory lies in transforming your character.
