The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding its election of regional executives in the Ashanti Region, with delegates gathering at Jubilee Park in Kumasi to elect new leaders for the party at the regional level.
The election is being contested by 34 candidates, while a total of 1,020 delegates are expected to participate in the voting process.
As of 10:00 hours, fewer than 50 delegates had cast their ballots at Jubilee Park, where the election is taking place.
The low number of ballots recorded at that point came as delegates continued to arrive and participate in the process. The election is expected to determine the party’s regional leadership and shape its activities in the Ashanti Region.
A total of 34 candidates are competing for various regional executive positions in the Ashanti Region. Among the key contests is the race for the regional chairmanship, which has attracted two candidates.
The two candidates contesting the chairmanship are reported to be making last-minute efforts to persuade delegates and secure the votes required to emerge victorious.
With 1,020 delegates expected to vote, the chairmanship contest is likely to attract particular attention as party members await the outcome.
