The world of celebrity relationships rarely stays quiet forever even after nearly two decades of silence. Rev Ahenkan Bonsu, the ex-husband of legendary Ghanaian gospel musician Esther Smith, has broken his silence in a revealing new interview on Radio XYZ.
The minister detailed the exact structural breakdown of their union, pinpointing the shocking moment he realized their four-year marriage had officially come to an end.
According to Bonsu, the marriage began unraveling when the gospel singer traveled abroad for an international performance layout. Communication lines completely dropped until Bonsu received a surprise phone call from a trusted associate residing in the United States.
The friend revealed that he had witnessed Esther performing at a Church of Pentecost branch in New York. Crucially, the church administration had issued a public announcement regarding an upcoming child naming ceremony for the singer. Bonsu claims he was completely unaware of the pregnancy.
The associate recorded the video footage of the naming ceremony and sent the digital file straight to Bonsu email interface. After downloading the file and burning it onto a physical CD, Bonsu presented the evidence directly to their presiding bishop. What added intense emotional pain to the situation was the choice of name, as the child was named Bright Smith Bonsu, closely mimicking the name Bright Ahenkan Bonsu which the couple had previously discussed.
When confronted by the church leadership with the video evidence, Bonsu claims the gospel star offered a swift apology. He further alleged that following their highly publicized divorce between 2008 and 2010, the singer took their two younger children but left their eldest son, Mighty, entirely under his care without ever returning to check on his welfare.
However, logic requires analyzing both sides of this historic marital dispute. Esther Smith has consistently presented a drastically different account of the separation over the years. In previous public media updates, she disclosed that she was a vulnerable victim of severe domestic abuse throughout the marriage. She firmly maintained that her situation could have easily resulted in a tragic death if she had not exited the environment, emphasizing that the negative narratives spread by her ex-husband were complete fabrications designed to ruin her public image.
Unraveling a high-profile marriage inside the public domain always leaves a complex trail of unresolved questions. While fans of classic Ghanaian gospel music continue to enjoy her timeless catalog, this sudden interview proves that personal histories are rarely simple.
