Trouble caught up with a cunning fraudster in the Kweiman community within the Greater Accra Region.
Residents busted a fake electricity company official moving from house to house and cashing in on innocent people. The clever trickster pretended to solve power meter problems while pocketing cash payments meant for state accounts. Too many unsuspecting citizens almost fell victim to his smooth talk before vigilant locals spotted his fraudulent moves.
Community members noticed his suspicious behavior and cornered him before he could escape with his loot. Impersonating state utility workers has become a smart criminal trick that targets hard-working families trying to keep their lights on. Quick-thinking neighbors refused to let him walk free and immediately dragged him out of the neighborhood. They handed him over to the Ghana Police Service so proper investigations can begin without delay.
Power distribution authorities have repeatedly warned the public against giving physical cash to individuals claiming to represent the company. Real officers do not collect cash door-to-door during routine inspections or meter fixes. Homeowners must always demand official identification cards before letting anyone inspect their meters. Community vigilance remains the best weapon against scammers who want to exploit everyday citizens.
