Trouble in the house of faith can scatter a peaceful nation faster than heavy wind blows dry leaves. Recent bitter exchanges between some religious figures have left many citizens worried about national unity. People want harmony instead of angry noise filling our airwaves every single day.
The Ghana Police Service moved swiftly to arrest suspects involved in these disturbing social media videos. On Wednesday August 12 authorities picked up an Imam who allegedly called for attacks against offensive comments. Officers also arrested a pastor over alleged offensive statements directed at Prophet Mohammed.
Another dramatic twist happened when a video captured a man physically assaulting that handcuffed pastor right inside a police cell. Police quickly apprehended the attacker to show that nobody is above the law. Lawlessness dressed in religious clothing brings total shame to our society.
Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno stepped forward to address these growing worries directly. During a crucial meeting with religious bodies in Accra on Friday August 14 he issued a stern warning. He stated clearly that violence will never fix what harsh words have broken.
The IGP reminded everyone that Ghana peace remains a divine blessing built over generations of living together. Christians and Muslims are not strangers because our families share meals and celebrate festivals side by side. Religious leaders must use their moral authority now to calm down fiery tempers everywhere.
Citizens must trust the legal system instead of rushing to execute vigilante justice on the streets. Police authorities promised full investigations to ensure that every culprit faces proper legal consequences. Let us protect our beloved country because peaceful coexistence remains our greatest national treasure.
