Former Deputy Finance Minister and Atiwa East MP Abena Osei Asare has boldly challenged President John Dramani Mahama to address concerns raised in the opposition petition. She stated that any responsible leader would listen when citizens speak up about key governance issues.
Speaking during the massive Democracy Under Attack protest in Accra on Thursday August 6 2026, the lawmaker explained that the opposition felt compelled to speak out directly. She noted that people around the President might not be telling him the full truth about the state of the nation.
Hundreds of passionate citizens and party sympathizers marched through the streets of Accra from the Supreme Court building all the way to Jubilee House. The energetic crowd demanded stronger protection for civil liberties, the rule of law, and institutional accountability.
Abena Osei Asare emphasized that things have clearly gone out of hand and require decisive executive leadership. She insisted that stepping up to address citizen grievances remains the basic duty of any elected leader sitting in the highest office.
Several civil society groups including the Alliance for Accountable Governance joined the march in strong solidarity. Opposition supporters now eagerly await an official response from Jubilee House to confirm whether leadership is paying close attention.
